DAVIDSON-DAVIE COMMUNITY COLLEGE BYLAWS
Official DocumentARTICLE I: NAME
Section 1: The name of this organization shall be the Association of Nursing Students (ANS) at Davidson-Davie Community College.
ARTICLE II: PURPOSE
Section 1: The purpose of the Association of Nursing Students at Davidson-Davie Community College is to foster academic success, professional growth, and community engagement among nursing students.
The Association of Nursing Students is dedicated to creating a supporting environment where students can develop leadership skills, build connections with peers and healthcare professionals, and engage in service projects that promote health and wellness in the community.
ARTICLE III: AUTHORITY
Section 1: This organization is a registered student organization at Davidson-Davie Community College and adheres to all campus policies as set forth in the Davidson-Davie Community College Code of Student Conduct and the Student Organization Policies and Guidelines.
ARTICLE IV: MEMBERSHIP
Section 1: Membership in this organization is open to all students. Davidson-Davie Community College does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, disability, pregnancy, political affiliation, veteran status, sexual orientation or gender identity in any of its programs, activities or services.
Section 2: Students who are enrolled in a state-approved nursing program at Davidson-Davie Community College (e.g., PNE, LPN to ADN, ADN) meet the eligibility requirements for active membership.
Section 3: All members must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 and be in good standing with the college at all times.
Section 4: Members must regularly participate in organization functions and actively support organization projects.
Section 5: Membership may be revoked by ½ vote of officers plus membership vote if actions are deemed inappropriate.
Section 6: A membership fee, determined by the Board of Directors and approved by members, is required. Membership extends through the length of the student's nursing program and may continue up to six months beyond graduation if requirements are met.
Failure to pay dues forfeits all privileges of membership. National and/or state nursing student memberships are separate and must be paid directly to those organizations.
ARTICLE V: BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Section 1: The Board of Directors (BODs) of the Association of Nursing Students shall be President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Student Government Association (SGA) Liaison, and Event Coordinator(s).
Section 2: Qualifications and Expectations
- The Board of Directors shall be the governing body of ANS, responsible for carrying out the mission, upholding the bylaws, and overseeing the organization's functions, finances, and membership.
- The Board shall meet regularly to plan, coordinate, and evaluate the organization's projects and events. Board members are expected to attend all meetings and events unless excused by the President.
- Officers must be current members in good standing with ANS, enrolled in a nursing program at Davidson-Davie Community College, and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Officers shall serve for one academic year or until successors are elected.
- Officers are expected to attend at least 75% of organization meetings, actively support fundraising/outreach, and represent the organization professionally.
Section 3: Removal / Dismissal
- A Board member may be removed for failure to fulfill duties, violation of college conduct standards, or repeated unexcused absences.
- Any officer who misses more than two regular meetings without prior notice may be subject to removal by a plurality vote of members present.
- A Board member may also be removed by a plurality vote of the Board at a meeting called for that purpose, following at least two weeks' notice.
Section 4: Election Process
Candidates must be nominated by a member in good standing or may self-nominate. Elections will be conducted by secret ballot, and counted by the current Board of Directors. A plurality vote determines the winner. Vacancies occurring mid-term shall be filled by appointment of the Board until a special election is held.
Section 5: Officer Roles and Duties
a. President (Jeffery Adom-Akrasi)
Presides over meetings, serves as chief spokesperson, coordinates officers and ensures goals are carried out.
b. Vice President
Assists the President, presides in the President's absence, oversees membership recruitment, and coordinates committee activities.
c. Secretary (Carmahn Belmont)
Records and distributes minutes of all meetings, maintains attendance and official documents, and manages membership correspondence.
d. Treasurer (Logan Shaw)
Maintains transaction records, collects dues, presents financial updates, and ensures compliance with college financial policies.
e. SGA Liaison
Represents ANS to the Student Government Association, attends meetings, and advocates for nursing student interests.
f. Event Coordinator(s)
Plans/coordinates club events, fundraisers, and service projects, ensuring proper communication and promotion.
Section 6: Impeachment
Any member may initiate an officer's removal by acquiring signatures of 1/3 of all voting members on a petition. The Executive Board will call a removal vote within 14 days. Removal from office shall require a 2/3 vote of all voting members.
Section 7: Vacancy of Office
Interim acting officers are appointed by the Executive Board in case of resignation. An election must be called within 14 days of vacancy. If the Presidency is vacant, the Vice-President completes the term.
ARTICLE VI: MEETINGS
Section 1: Regular meetings shall be held monthly during the academic year. Meeting dates and times will be communicated to members at least two weeks in advance.
Section 2: The President has the authority to convene special meetings at any time and must notify general membership accordingly.
Section 3: Meetings shall begin with the President's review of the agenda, followed by attendance, approval of minutes, the Treasurer's report, and committee updates.
ARTICLE VII: EXECUTIVE BOARD
Section 1: The Executive Board shall consist of elected and appointed officers, with advisors serving as non-voting members.
Section 2: The Executive Board shall have general supervision of organization affairs between scheduled meetings.
Section 3: Special Committees may be established by the Executive Board to fulfill defined tasks.
Section 4: Actions taken by the Executive Board may be rescinded or modified by the general membership with a majority vote.
ARTICLE VIII: ADVISOR(S)
Section 1: Advisor(s) for the organization will be selected by the DCCC ADN Program Director and Faculty Team.
Section 2: Responsibilities:
- Assure members follow the organization constitution and bylaws.
- Provide knowledge and advice about college policies and activities.
- Serve as an impartial sounding board for problem-solving.
- Facilitate leadership opportunities, grants, and fundraising.
- Communicate regularly with Student Life & Leadership staff.
Section 3: Members of the BOD and ANS will consult with Advisor(s) regarding all organization concerns and activities. Meeting minutes will be reviewed by advisors before general presentation.
ARTICLE IX: CONDUCT VIOLATIONS
Section 1: All registered student organizations are subject to policies as outlined in the college's Student Code of Conduct. If found in violation, due process will be followed to resolve the matter.
Section 2: Sanctions may include a reprimand, probation, withdrawal of registration, fines, or other remedies. If placed on probation twice within an academic year, registration will be withdrawn.
Section 3: Written charges may be filed with the Director of Student Life, who will review and conduct investigations if necessary.
ARTICLE X: AMENDMENTS
Section 1: Amendments to the constitution and bylaws may be made with a 2/3 vote of those present and voting at a membership meeting.
Section 2: Amendment proposals must be submitted in writing and signed. Proposed amendments will be announced to members at least 30 days prior to the vote.
